On August 11th, after the call of the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD), a memorial and moment of silence was held for the victims of Greek state brutality since the division of historical Macedonia in 1912-1913. The vigil was held in several locations around the world, such as Melbourne, London, Houston, Washington, D.C., Toronto and Skopje. Click here for photos.

Video: Candle Vigil to Honor Victims of Macedonian Genocide
In a modest number, participants, protected by ample police security, peacefully lit candles in front of each Greek diplomatic consular mission. In Skopje, 90 police officers surrounded the embassy, blocked the access roads to it and did not allow the participants to light candles, explaining that if the images are visible on social networks, the fine would be 5,000 euros.
UMD plans to hold these candle vigils annually on or coinciding with the anniversary date of the signing of the Treaty of Bucharest – August 10, 1913.
